California wildfires, Leonid meteor shower, 'The Clinton Affair': 5 things to know this weekend  1 Month ago

President Donald Trump will travel to California on Saturday to meet with people affected by the state's deadly wildfire and asses their destruction. In Northern California, the Camp Fire has killed 71 people – the most lethal in state history –and 1,000 more are unaccounted for, while in Southern California, crews continue to battle separate blazes. California lawmakers criticized Trump last weekend for blaming the fires on "gross mismanagement of the forest,"  but in more recent days, the president has been more supportive, offering prayers for the victims, praise for firefighters and emergency personnel, and pledges of federal help. The danger of possible fires is still present in California, with breezy northeast winds likely over the Sierra Nevada mountains Saturday night into Sunday, which will once again elevate fire danger.

Sunday is the deadline for each of the 67 county canvassing boards to report official returns to Tallahassee and finish their hand recounts for the U.S. Senate and agriculture commissioner races. A machine recount of ballots Thursday declared the governor's race was a win for candidate Ron DeSantis against Democrat Andrew Gillum in a highly contested race. Now, Sen. Bill Nelson and the GOP candidate Rick Scott are waiting for hand recounts to declare who will take the U.S. Senate seat, and it all comes down to Broward County, which has been plagued with problems getting ballots counted and recounted on time. Ultimately those final results will have to be in by noon Sunday, and will be certified by the state Elections Canvassing Commission on Tuesday.

Monica Lewinsky is ready to revisit the 1998 sex scandal she had with former president Bill Clinton in a new three-night documentary series, “The Clinton Affair." In the 6 1/2-hour series, Lewinsky reveals the most painful and traumatic experiences she had during her time in Washington, admitting that she wishes to erase the episodes from her memory. "In order to move forward in the life I have, I must take risks – both professional and emotional," the former White House intern wrote in a Vanity Fair essay about her decision to participate in docuseries. "The Clinton Affair" premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on A&E.

Be sure to keep an eye to the sky this weekend: The peak of the Leonid meteor shower – an annual mid-November treat – will be visible across the night sky late Saturday and early Sunday. Also known as "shooting stars," the meteors are actually tiny pea- and sand-sized bits of dust and debris crumbling off the Tempel-Tuttle comet as it swings by the Earth. Viewers can expect to see an hourly rate of some 10 to 15 meteors this year. As with most meteor showers, the best time to watch the Leonids is usually between the hours of midnight and dawn, according to

A former Dallas Cowboys linebacker will become the first known NFL player to be a part of a same-sex marriage when he weds his partner this weekend, according to The New York Times.  The newspaper reported that Jeff Rohrer, who played in 83 games over six seasons with the Cowboys, will make history Sunday when he marries Joshua Ross a little more than two decades after playing his final NFL snap. Rohrer told The Times that he was "completely in the closet" before he met Ross, a skin-care expert, at a bar in 2015. Rohrer joins the handful of former NFL players who have come out as gay after their careers ended.
