'He was a young pleasant officer,' guard remembers ONGC chopper crash victim  2 Months ago

Source:   Times Of India

MUMBAI: The ONGC Colony in Poonam Nagar, Andheri East, where crash victim R Saravanan lived, wore a quiet air Saturday. The senior officer has no family in Mumbai and lived alone in the Bachelors' Quarters which is a separate building from the family accommodation.
Access to his second-floor apartment was restricted. A small red car belonging to Saravanan was parked in the building.

Neighbours in ONGC Colony declined to offer comment on the tragedy that had engulfed their company. Two officials who headed out of the compound said: "Saravanan belonged to a different department so what comment could they offer".

A security guard in the compound said, "He was a young pleasant officer who seemed to be under 50 years of age. He arrived here just six months ago. The family we hear lives in South India. He would smile and say a kind word whenever he passed by." Another guard speculated that Saravanan's remains were yet to be traced.

In the neighbouring cluster of Poonam Nagar Colony, Lohri celebrations were unfolding in the community garden. Local resident Sheela Parmar said they were not aware of the tragedy. "Has it featured on television? If we knew we would have truncated festivities."

A friend who was accompanying her said the ONGC staff did not mingle with other residents of Poonam Nagar. "We do invite them for all festivals that are celebrated in the garden but they seldom show up. Even word of this tragedy has not permeated through their building watchmen."
