LeBron James' agent Rich Paul calls move to LA Lakers 'a basketball decision'  7 Months ago

Source:   USA Today

Opinions and speculation have flown about wildly as to why LeBron James chose to join the Los Angeles Lakers. Based on his media silence since the announcement, it might be a while before we hear it directly from James.

To James' agent, though, the move was "just a basketball decision" that was ultimately about "what made him happy."

Rich Paul joined the NBA TV broadcast of the Summer League on Thursday night and discussed his superstar client's decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers. Paul said that when he talked to teams, he "gave them as much information as I could, but for him (James), it was just a basketball decision."

"It was basically about what he wanted to do and what made him happy. And he earned that being in his 16th season," Paul said. "You don’t have athletes in their 16th season be the No. 1 free agent."

Paul also downplayed the significance of James playing in the entertainment capital of the world. The agent said James is "already a global entity" who doesn't need to play in Hollywood for potential movie or business opportunities.

"People say, 'Well, it's about movies, it's about this.' It's LeBron James. He's already a global entity, so it wasn't necessarily about that," Paul said.

Perhaps coincidentally, James and writer Steve Mallory just sold the idea for an untitled comedy film to Paramount Players, USA TODAY Sports confirmed Wednesday, with James in early talks to star.
